I was reading about Amy Johnson when I painted this, everyone seems to think it might be Amelia Earhart, which I suppose it could be if you wanted it to but for me I think about Amy Johnson, an English aviator in the 1930's who was the first solo woman to fly from London to Australia and also flew in the second world war as part of the air auxillary. She left London on May 5th and landed in Darwin on May 24th having flown 11,000 miles! She received the Harmon Trophy as well as a CBE in George V's 1930 birthday honors. What an inspiration she is to achieve something that you dream of.
