Story time was supposed to begin at seven.
Fox had arrived early and claimed the best spot. Duck was late, as usual, and Hare insisted he hadn't been told there would be assigned seating.
Bear said nothing. Bear rarely did.
Racoon had been specifically asked NOT to climb over the back of the couch, which naturally meant that was exactly where he appeared.
Once everyone had finally settled in, she pulled the blanket over her knees, straightened her crown and prepared to begin.
There was just one problem. Nobody could agree on the story,
Hare wanted adventure.
Duck wanted something to lull him to sleep.
Fox requested something with chickens, which was immediately vetoed.
Racoon said he'd be happy with anything involving a rubbish bin.
Bear said nothing.
She smiled and began anyway......
"Once upon a time there was a perfectly ordinary girl......"
At which point, every animal rolled their eyes because they all knew better.
